Lesson Plans

This is a series of lesson plans and slideshows for possible future projects and ones I’ve already gotten the chance to teach.

Realism vs. Abstract Self Portrait Diptych

Digital Art Sticker Design Project

Surrealism Inspired Collaborative Drawing/Painting:

1 Day Project

Elementary Solo Week: Expressionism Unit (K-3rd and 5th); Slab Clay Project (4th)

Students learned about the Expressionism art movement and were challenged to create their own artwork inspired by a specific Expressionist artist. Students sketched and planned a design that they then used to create a unique artwork. Students had free choice on subject matter and medium.

Window Scene Clay Project: focuses on slab building and score-and-slip techniques. I used a contemporary artist as inspiration for this project, which taught students about working artists who sell their own work for a living.

Eric Carle Inspired Food Collage Project

Students learned about real and implied texture. Students created their own implied texture with texture rubbings, which were then collaged into a food artwork. Collage examples are shown at the end of the lesson plan. This project can be applied to a variety of subject matters (like the animal examples shown in the lesson plan).

Coil Snail Clay Project

Students created a clay sculpture of a snail that they could creatively paint. Students learned about hand building (coils). Similar examples can be seen in the lesson plan.
